The Blair Witch Project : Made for $30,000 by two young filmmakers from Florida, the film is composed entirely of reportedly "found" footage shot by three missing college students who made a journey to the woods of Western Maryland in 1994 with the purpose of making a documentary about a "witch" who is linked to murders and mysterious occurrences spanning 200 years. It begins with footage of the crew leaving their homes and testing their equipment, a 16mm camera, a Hi8 video camera, and a DAT recorder so every step, word and sound will be captured. They hike out to the woods of Blair, hoping to find evidence of a local legend "The Blair Witch". At first, they find nothing except a pile of stones arranged by hand. As the sun goes down, they realize they are lost, but there is little panic. They camp out, and in the middle of the night they see and hear things like the voices of screaming children piercing the blackness from off in the distance. When they awake, they find wooden dolls in cross-like formations and more piles of stones in places where they have not been before, causing the already desperate group to panic. And one night, days after they should have been back home, Josh disappears completely, and none of them were ever to be seen again. One year later, a bag full of film cans, DAT tapes, and video tapes were found. The video footage and the film, are cut together, and this is..."The Blair Witch Project."
